Trade Deficit Increases in June

According to today’s figures from Office for National Statistics:

  • The UK’s deficit on trade in goods and services was £2.2 billion in June, an increase from May’s deficit of £1.9 billion.
  • The surplus on trade in services was £4.3 billion in June, unchanged form May.
  • The deficit on trade in goods was £6.5 billion, compared to £6.2 billion in May.
  • The deficit with EU countries was £2.8 billion in June, lower than May’s deficit of £3.0 billion.
  • The deficit with non-EU countries increased to £3.6 billion in June, compared with a deficit of £3.2 billion in May.
  • In June, total exports of goods rose by 1.5% to £18.3 billion and total imports of goods rose by 2.0% to £24.7 billion. Exports to EU countries rose by 5.0% while exports to non-EU countries fell by 2.5%. Imports from EU countries rose by 2.5% and imports from non-EU countries rose by 2.0%.
